The Cornwall Multisport Club
is astounded at the participation levels for
the Heather Saaltink Memorial Event this
coming Saturday. This email serves as a
pre-event primer so you (and we) are
prepared for the event.
1) Pre-Registration. Please confirm
your registered event as stated in this
email. If you wish to change your event or
can no longer attend please email info@cornwallmultisportclub.com
before Thursday at Noon.
2) Parking. We have limited parking
at the school and area churches. If you are
familiar with the area, please enter Bethune
Avenue from the northern intersection
closest to the arena. When approaching the
school there will be volunteers to help
guide you to a parking lot. Once the local
lots are full, vehicles will be directed to
park at the strip mall. Please DO NOT park
on Bethune Ave, Post Road, Milles Roche Road
or Kent Crescent as these streets are used
for the event.
3) Facilities. The event takes place
at the Longue Sault Public School. This is
an elementary school. There are no showers
and there is limited washroom facilities.
Please be patient, we are doing the best we
can with the budget we have.
4) Event Registration. Event
Registration begins at 8:30am in the school
gymnasium. There will be a table for bib
pick-up, a table for new registrations and a
table for MADD donations. If you decide to
change events after Thursday, you will have
to stand in line at the new registration
table
5) Event Start Times. Please note, we
have changed the starting times and order of
the 5km Run/Walk and 10km Run. The 5km
Run/Walk will now start at 10:00am. The 10km
Run will now start at 10:10am. If you are
running the 2km event and arrive after
9:30am, please park at the strip mall and
walk to the site, there will be no parking
at the school or in the immediate area.
6) Food. Chili will be served
starting at 11:00am in the lunch room in the
school. There will be no tables or chairs so
practice your "eating standing up" skills
until race day.
7) Cost. This event is free for
everyone. The Cornwall Multisport Club,
along with the help of their generous
sponsors, are covering the cost of the
event. In lieu of fees, we are asking
participants to make a donation to MADD.
MADD will most likely be overwhelmed (and
overjoyed) at the generosity of
participants. To minimize the length of the
donation line please complete a pledge form
in advance, even for a single donation if
you would like a charitable receipt. Pledge
forms can be downloaded here: http://cornwallmultisportclub.com/docs/HSMemorial%20Pledge%20Sheet.pdf
8) Timing. This event will be timed.
The CMC will have timers on hand for all
races. This is hand timing so it is
absolutely imperative that each participant
wears their bib on the front of their body
and visible on the most outer layer of their
clothes. We NEED to see the bib as you cross
the line.
9) Course. The course map is on the
website, study it in advance. Volunteers
will be along the course to guide you. The
course is open to traffic but traffic will
be monitored and informed of the event
during their travels. Please be aware of
vehicular traffic at all times. Since the
course is not closed we would prefer if mp3/ipod/music
players were not worn during the event. If
it is an absolute must please be considerate
and only use one ear piece to be attentive
to traffic and others around you. The 5km
route is 1 loop, and the 10km route is 2
loops of the 5km route. The 2km event is two
loops in the immediate vicinity of the
school.
10) Thanks. The organizers of the
event would like to graciously thank all the
volunteers who have signed up, the Ontario
Provincial Police, Long Sault Volunteer Fire
Department, Stormont Township, Community for
Sober Highways and Waterways and St. John
Ambulance. We would also like to recognize
sponsors of the event including the Ramada
Inn, Cristall Rock, Pat's Home Cooking,
Xterra Wetsuits, Justin's No Frills,
Cardinal Meats, St. Albert Cheese, Rookez
Edge, Ray-Jans Construction, Marleau Bros
Insurance, Short Line Convenience, Joe McNamara for the great logo and
Wendy's.
11) Post Race. Awards and draw prizes
will start at 12:15pm in the gymnasium. You
must be present to collect your medal (top 3
M/F in each event) or a draw prize if your
name is randomly chosen.
That is all; we hope you have a great time,
be sure to thank a volunteer.
